Entertaining games for your road trip

Now that summer is approaching, many people have started planning their summer vacations. Road trips often come hand in hand with summer vacations and can be fun yet lengthy experiences. To survive a road trip, things like snacks and music playlists are often planned ahead of time. However, it’s also important to have a few road trip games ready especially if you have kids.

Having a few activities to play while on the road can help reduce fatigue, boredom and restlessness. It’s also a great way to bond and share a few chuckles as you journey to your destination.

Here are five fun road trip games to keep you and your travelling troupe entertained:

1) Car BINGO

This is similar to traditional BINGO, except instead of having an announcer call out BINGO numbers, participants look out the window and watch for items on their BINGO cards. These items can include animals, signs, buildings and other landmarks. Just as in traditional BINGO, a player can call BINGO once they have a row, column, diagonal, cross or blackout complete. Print off our BrokerLink Road Trip BINGO cards before you hit the road and you’re all set.

2) Hot Seat

Each player takes a turn in the “hot seat” by being interviewed by the other players. Participants each ask whoever is in the “hot seat” five questions. The player being questioned can veto one question out of the five questions asked by each player, but must answer the rest. Once all participants have asked their five questions to the “hot seat” player, another player enters the “hot seat”. This game is a great way to learn more about each other. Just be sure you really want to hear someone’s answer, otherwise you may regret asking.

3) Speak in Song

This is your chance to show off your knowledge of song lyrics! During this game, all conversations must be carried out in song lyrics. Feel free to mix up songs by reciting a chorus from one song and a verse from another…whatever it takes to get your point across. Singing is not required, but is a fun way of learning who could be the next big star.

4) Buzz Word

At the start of the trip, determine a common word that will serve as the “buzz word” for the entire vacation. No one is allowed to say the “buzz word”. Provide each player with a handful of paper clips at the beginning of the trip. When a player catches someone saying the “buzz word”, they shout “buzz” and collect a paper clip from the offending player. The participant with the most paper clips at the end of the trip wins. This game works well with commonly used words like “car” or “mom”.

5) 20 Questions

One player thinks of a person, place or thing. The other players try to guess the person, place or thing determined by asking “yes” or “no” questions. There are two versions of playing this game. Either every player is allowed to ask up to 20 questions, or all players as a group are collectively allowed to ask up to 20 questions. Whoever guesses correctly gets to be the next person to think of a subject.

Road trips are a great way to create lasting memories. These games can add even more fun and enjoyment to your road trips this summer. As a driver, just be sure to keep your eyes on the road and to follow all distracted driving laws.
