How BrokerLink staff “link” to local communities

Did you know you can find BrokerLink employees supporting charitable causes in their communities? These activities are part of the BrokerLink culture, which stems from a commitment to positively impact the communities where we live and work by supporting a number of local charitable organizations. With over 115 offices supported by more than 1,400 employees across Ontario, Alberta and Atlantic Canada, there are lots of helping hands. Throughout 2016, BrokerLink employees donated their time and resources to support charitable organizations. Here are some of the outreach areas where their efforts were put:

Families and children

This section of community involvement is especially busy around the holidays. Branch offices often sponsor a family in need – this is accomplished through raising funds through bake sales, “denim days” (where employees pay to wear jeans) and gift donations from staff and clients. The holiday spirit continues with hosting toy drives, collecting hats and mittens for the homeless and also by employees volunteering at community festivals – such as the Airdrie Festival of Lights and Milton Santa Claus Parade.

In addition to the holidays, employees also supported relief efforts for Fort McMurray during the 2016 wildfires. Funds from denim days, specific branch-led initiatives and personal donations were provided to the Canadian Red Cross. Other causes employees have supported include: The Shoebox Project for SheltersBrown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, and the Why Not Youth Centres.

Organization-wide cause: United Way

For six years, BrokerLink employees, along with generous matching from the Intact Financial Corporation (IFC) Foundation, have raised over $720,000 for United Way – the Canada-wide organization focuses on assisting people to help improve their lives and build a better future. Branch offices across Alberta, Ontario and Atlantic Canada host fundraisers and volunteer for the organization throughout the year.

Health and wellness

Having a positive impact on communities includes supporting health and wellness causes. There are numerous ways BrokerLink employees donate their time and resources. Some include getting involved in runs or bike rides to fundraise for the Heart and Stroke Foundationand the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or holding office-based fundraisers for organizations such as the Alzheimer Society. As with supporting causes for families and children and United Way, charitable efforts for health and wellness are way for employees to engage with, and support their local communities.

Beyond helping our customers find insurance, our employees embody BrokerLink’s commitment to give back to local communities. Stay updated about our community involvement by following us on Facebook and Twitter.
