Earlier this year, BrokerLink’s Rockyview branch, Intact Insurance and several local companies, came together to sponsor a fundraiser for a local toddler suffering from cancer.
Two-year-old Dallis Delarge (pictured above, top right, with her father) was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma in October, 2014. Retinoblastoma is a childhood cancer of the retina of the eye. Dallis suffers from a bilateral form of Retinoblastoma, meaning she has cancer in both eyes.
After being diagnosed, Dallis and her family travelled from their home in Airdrie, Alberta to the Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto, where Retinoblastoma specialists are located. After four months of treatment, Dallis was able to return home. However, Dallis and her parents are still required to travel to Toronto every three weeks for further treatment.
“Only a portion of the family’s expenses are covered by their health providers when in Toronto,” said Dallis’ grandmother, Tracie Verbruggen, Senior Account Administrator at BrokerLink’s Rockyview branch. “This makes things very challenging financially.”
Upon learning of the situation, Personal Insurance Advisors Beverly Jochems and Katherine Gervais, and Tracy Hildebrand, Branch Manager, spearheaded a special fundraising committee, with assistance from community partners. Together, the committee rallied together to hold Daydreams for Dallis, a fundraising gala.
In addition to great food and live musical entertainment, Daydreams for Dallis featured both live and silent auctions, with auction items provided by local organizations such as BrokerLink and Intact Insurance. Approximately 300 people attended the event, and just under $50,000 was raised to assist Dallis with her medical expenses.
“We can’t thank BrokerLink, Intact, and everyone else who helped out enough for everything they’ve done,” stated Tracie. “Our family remains positively overwhelmed and overjoyed at the outpouring of love and support for our wee girl.”
Dallis Delarge, two-years-old, is currently fighting Retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer of the retina, in both her eyes. Thanks to the support of BrokerLink’s Rockyview branch, along with Intact Insurance and other community partners, just under $50,000 was raised to begin a medical fund for Dallis.
