How to stay fit and healthy throughout the year

We all know it can be hard to balance work, family, friends and staying active. Many studies have shown that physical activity makes us stronger, can relieve stress, and give us energy. Staying active should not only benefit you physically, but you should also enjoy what you’re doing too.

For BrokerLink employees, staying active is a very important part of maintaining a happy and healthy work-life balance. Employees receive an annual fitness subsidy to offset some of the costs associated with participating in their favourite physical activity. From gym memberships and Zumba classes to playing hockey, BrokerLink employees are committed to staying active and healthy. Here are a few examples of how we balance work and being active.

-Running, biking, skating for a cause: It’s always better in a group and that must be part of the reason why so many BrokerLink branches participate in local community events for a cause. The branches take the time to fund-raise and donate their time towards many local events, which often include being active. A few notable events include participating in a hockey tournament to support Cystic Fibrosis or our Thunder Bay branch running a 5 km mud run to support Cancer research. Annually, many branches participate in the Relay for LifeJDRF Ride for Diabetes, and the CIBC Run for the Cure.

-Fitness challenge: Our Highfield branch in Calgary runs a monthly Fitness Challenge, where participants log their fitness hours each week and are entered into a draw to win prizes for being active and having a healthy lifestyle. The opportunity to win something can be a great way to motivate people to start getting active.

-Interval Training: Members of the Marketing team have been participating in an internal training workout called Insanity to work on strength training and improve cardiovascular performance. The team has been working out during their lunch breaks as a great way to incorporate physical activity into a daily routine.
